Alternative To A Woman’s Business Suit: The “Suit Dress”

Some days you just don’t feel like wearing a conventional woman’s business suit. One alternative would be to wear a “suit dress”. Put on a straight, “pencil skirt type” dress, with a pair of smart pumps. If it comes with a matching suit jacket, then buy it too. If it doesn’t, then throw on a jacket from one of your standard woman’s business suits, and wear the jacket with the dress as suit separates. Black or charcoal gray suit jackets could be your reliable staple for this “suit dress look”. Accessorize with a pretty necklace and you are ready to go make things happen. This is a great way to vary your professional image.

Another version of this business look is the skirt with a long jacket (above).

  1. What a great way to mix some casual style into formal work attire. It’s not too short, not too much skin, it’s pretty much right down the line.

  2. What a great way to look nice professionally in the summer. But how do you handle this with women in size 14. The examples are slender displays which of course is very flattering but how does the look work for more voluptious women?

  3. Good point. I searched around and found some nice dresses in plus sizes, that I think will work well with the “suit dress” look.

  6. Though often overlooked, women at work needs to appear more business-like. Perhaps the workplace is the only area where a lady will have to forgo feminine apparel and put on a more corporate appearance. I think I like the top left grey dress for its bold and straight look. It lacks accessories and that what I call the ultimate corporate dress.

In my own experience, dark suits make good choices for office. My own experience.

  7. Yes, if you would not ant to look too formal, the suit dress makes an obvious choice. It looks business like and at the same time has a casual look to it. It is less cubicle in appearance and will be ideal for people who want to look official and smart at the same time.
